Theft charges have been levied against a Union City woman accused of recently taking nearly $400 worth of merchandise from Walmart Supercenter in Union City.
Brenda Cheeks, 54, of 730 High St., Union City, was charged Tuesday with two counts of theft, according to the Union City Police Department.
Her photo from store surveillance was published in Friday’s edition of The Messenger as police sought her identity following a Feb. 7 incident in which a woman was observed on store video placing $396.42 worth of merchandise into a buggy and then walking through an unattended register line to leave without paying.
Ms. Cheeks was arrested Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting DVDs, valued at $133.18, at the Walmart store about 10:40 a.m., according to police investigator Derrick O’Dell.
Police reported she confessed to the Feb. 7 incident after her arrest.
