LaVerne (Brown) Sim-mons, 98, of Martin died Feb. 13, 2012, at Weakley County Nursing and Rehab Center in Dresden. She was a former resident of Obion County.
Services were set for 11 a.m. today at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, with the Rev. Paul Simmons officiating. Burial was to follow in Cane Creek Cemetery near Rives.
Pallbearers were to be Paul Brent Simmons, Gene Done, Leon Barber and Wayne Barber.
She was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Obion County, daughter of the late Emerson Ethridge and Rosa (Ross) Brown. She was the widow of Dewey B. Simmons and had attended the former Dixie High School in Obion County. She had been a sales representative for Electrolux Corp. and was a member of Martin First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Simmons of Louisville, Ky., and David Simmons of St. Louis; her daughter, Grace Prince of Nashville; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
