A DUI charge has been levied against a Troy woman in connection with a January crash in which a car struck a house on East Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
Deborah F. Matheny, 52, of 490 Wiley Neely Road, Troy, was arrested about 4 p.m. Thursday on a charge of second-offense driving under the influence, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The charge stems from a one-vehicle wreck that occurred just after 3 p.m. Jan. 16 when Mrs. Matheny’s car ran off East Reelfoot Avenue, between Section Line Road and Lynn Street, and crashed into the front of a house at 2428 East Reelfoot Ave. She was airlifted to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment.
At the time, police reported several alcohol containers were recovered from the wreckage and there was an odor of alcohol coming from inside the car. The investigation for DUI was still ongoing.
According to an updated police report, police received Mrs. Matheny’s medical records Tuesday and the paperwork showed her blood alcohol content as .217 percent over 21⁄2 hours after the accident Jan. 16. As a result, police signed a warrant for DUI, with it being listed as second offense due to a DUI conviction in Weakley County in 2006.
Police reported Ms. Matheny came to the police station around 4 p.m. Thursday and was taken by her husband to the jail for processing. She was released on her own recognizance for medical reasons per a judge, according to the report.
