| The Messenger 02.10.12 The driver service center in Union City will not be losing all of its services after all. State Rep. Bill Sanderson said Thursday the Union City Driver’s Service Center will be designated as a Reinstatement Plus center beginning next week — offering testing, as well as renewals and reinstatements. It was announced in late December that the Union City service center would be used for reinstatements only, meaning local residents would have to travel to other centers in surrounding counties to complete transactions such as testing and renewals. After some public outcry, Sanderson (R-Kenton) met with Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons at the Driver’s Service Center in Union City. Sanderson had requested the meeting after the cuts to the center’s services were made. At the meeting, Sanderson expressed concerns about limiting the services offered and the hardships it would create on area residents. As a result, he was able to announce Thursday that the local center will not be losing all the services as previously announced. “I am very glad that the Union City Driver’s Service Center will continue to offer a broad range of services. I want to thank Commissioner Gibbons for listening to my constituents’ concerns and allowing us to keep this important center open,” Sanderson said. | | | |
