Weakley County AARP Chapter #3392 met recently in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in Martin.
Hostesses were Mary Elizabeth Bell and Hycinth Smith.
Chapter president Mary Elizabeth Bell welcomed the 10 members and guests, and then read “Thankfulness,” by Helen Steiner Rice.
Secretary Martha Lamb read the minutes of the November 2011 chapter meeting and treasurer Jerry Seamans gave the financial report.
Treasurer Seamans read “thank you” cards from WLJT-TV; Heart Fund; Weakley County Rescue Squad and the Telethon of Stars for the member contributions in 2011.
The guest speaker was county mayor Houston Patrick, who gave an informative update on happenings in the area, including the Port Authority at Tiptonville; I-69; and the new airport expansion in Obion County. He said he is optimistic that these improvements will benefit Northwest Tennessee.
The next chapter meeting is scheduled this month at the same location. Refreshments and fellowship will be held at 9:30 a.m., and the meeting will start at 10 a.m. Local author Brenda Evans is the scheduled speaker. Mrs. Jerry Seamans and Martha Lamb volunteered to be the hostesses. Everyone is invited to attend. Published in The WCP 2.7.12
