Countdown set for Class of 2026
It is the time of year when parents of the Class of 2026 will be asked to join their soon-to-be kindergartner while they “count down to kindergarten.”
Weakley County educators and other area officials will join forces Saturday at the C.E. Weldon Library in Martin from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. – registration begins at 9 a.m. – to Countdown to Kindergarten.
Parents who have a youngster going to kindergarten for the first time this Fall are encouraged to attend this free workshop.
Those attending will get expert advice, learn helpful hints and hear insider secrets that can make going to kindergarten exciting and fun for both children and parents.
The first 50 kindergartners-to-be who bring an adult to Countdown to Kindergarten will be presented with a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase, “I’m going to Kindergarten!” and free school supplies.
Saturday’s line-up of events includes:
• 9:30-10:30 a.m.: Lecture – Experts will give tips on making the kindergarten experience rewarding and productive for both children and adults.  While parents and guardians are attending this session, children will join their peers for entertainment in the children’s library area. • 10:30-11:30 a.m.: Q and A Session – Parents and guardians will be able to talk one-on-one with experts stationed at information booths located throughout the library.   Participants include, a kindergarten teacher, police officer, school nurse, a public librarian, a bus driver, WLJT’s director of Education and Outreach, plus many more.
