2012 WestStar class announced | Randy Huffstetler and Joey Mehlhorn, 2012 WestStar Leadership Class

2012 WestStar class participants from Weakley County – Joey Mehlhorn and Randy Huffstetler.
MARTIN – Randy Huffstetler and Joey Mehlhorn, both of Weakley County, are among the 32 members of the 2012 WestStar Leadership class. It was created in 1989 at the University of Tennessee at Martin to serve the multi-county area by providing leadership development and training. Representing counties in the 21-county region, class members have a diverse range of occupations and volunteer leadership experience.
Huffstetler is the vice president of Greenfield Banking Company. He is involved in many organizations, including the Weakley County Chamber of Commerce, the Weakley County Board of Equalization, the Weakley County Economic Development Board and the Greenfield Rotary Club. By participating in WestStar, he said he hopes to gain good ideas and leadership skills to carry back to his work place while networking with leaders across West Tennessee to help him be a better person and leader in his community.
Mehlhorn is a professor and interim Parker Chair of Excellence for the UTM. He is the director of the Tennessee Governor’s School for Agriculture, a volunteer for Santa’s Village and is involved with Future Farmers of America and UTM Farm Festival. Mehlhorn was awarded the Hardy M. Graham Distinguished Professor Award in 2009-2011. He was also awarded an Honorary State FFA Degree in 2005 from the Tennessee FFA for his service to the future Farmers of America organization. Mehlhorn said he hopes to use his WestStar experience to become more involved in the region outside of the county to better work with students and producers from around the region with the hope of helping UTM become more involved with West Tennessee.
