Students from 26 southeastern universities will assemble on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin Thursday to hone their journalism skills and represent their respective communication programs.
The three-day 2012 South East Journalism Conference will feature competitive journalism contests that will test students’ abilities and knowledge in news writing, radio reporting, photojournalism, public relations and more.
Competitions will take place Friday, along with an awards banquet announcing winners of contests for previously-submitted materials.
Informational sessions and speakers will also be held during the conference. At 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Watkins Auditorium of the Boling University Center, a panel of students from the University of Alabama student newspaper will discuss how they coped with the EF4 tornado that ravaged Tuscaloosa, Ala., April 27, 2011.
