A loss did not hurt the Dresden girls. Winning finally paid off for the Lion boys.
Both Dresden teams are ranked in this week’s Associated Press Tennessee Class A prep basketball polls, the boys checking at No. 9 and the girls holding their No. 10 spot.
In all, three Weakley County teams are ranked as the Westview boys held their No. 10 spot in the Class AA rankings.
The Lady Lions did not pay for their District 13A loss at Gleason last week, staying just ahead of a Memphis Booker T. Washington team that has lost just once in 23 games this season.
Just hours after the polls came out on Monday afternoon, Dresden split at home against Greenfield, the Lady Lions earning a 72-44 win and the boys dropping a 54-48 decision.
Lake County remained the No. 1 team in 1A, getting 12 of the 18 first-place votes.
An area team holds down the No. 1 spot in the double-A poll as well, Obion County Central taking over the top seat from Upperman.
Dyersburg is eighth and McNairy County is 10th in the 2A girls’ poll.
Memphis BTW sits atop the 1A boys’ poll, which also has Lake County (No. 6) and Middleton (8th) as rural West Tennessee representatives ranked.
Westview is one of four West Tennessee teams in the 2A boys’ poll, sitting behind Liberty (2nd), Bolivar (3rd) and Jackson South Side (8th). Published in The WCP 2.7.12
