|Murray State keeps winning and keeps rising. |
Now, the Racers are starting to pass some big names.
MSU moved up one more spot in the latest Associated Press men’s college basketball poll, checking in at No. 9.
With a 23-0 overall record and 11-0 Ohio Valley Conference mark, the team is off to the best start in school and conference history.
It has become an historic season, indeed.
The nation’s media darling as the only undefeated Division I men’s team in the nation, Murray State is playing to sell-out crowds at home and on the road, evidenced most recently in a 65-58 win over UT Martin Saturday in front of 4,700 fans at the Elam Center in Martin.
As the ninth-ranked team in the country, the Racers have passed Duke, which fell to No. 10 after suffering a home loss to Miami on Sunday.
St. Mary’s, which will be Murray State’s BracketBuster opponent Feb. 18 at the CFSB Center in Murray, climbed two spots to No. 16.
Murray State is also the No. 1 mid-major team, according to CollegeInsider.com.
The Bluegrass State, long known for its basketball, is basking in another banner year.
Murray State’s story is just one of three for the state.
The University of Kentucky held the No. 1 ranking for the third consecutive week, while Louisville is No. 23 and poised to move up following Monday night’s impressive win over UConn.
Murray State’s attempt to run the table on the regular season continues Thursday night when the Racers host Tennessee State in a game that will be televised on ESPNU.
The Racers will then host Austin Peay on Saturday before playing three of their final four games on the road. Published in The Messenger 2.7.12
