BOOK TALK — Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Bragg (center) spoke to students from Union City, Obion County Central and South Fulton high schools and Union City Middle School eighth-grade Honors English classes when he visited the area as the guest of honor at the annual Union City Rotary Club Distinguished Speaker Banquet last week. Prior to his presentation and question-and-answer session with the students, Bragg met some UCHS and UCMS students who presented him a book that detailed their impressions of passages in his best-selling book, “All Over but the Shoutin’.” The students had read the book, which is the first in a family-focused trilogy, prior to Bragg’s visit. Among those greeting him were (from left) Joanna Wisener, who teaches Honors English at UCMS and UCHS and AP English Literature at UCHS; freshman Macy Earley; sophomore Bettye Claire Beachum; junior Sadie Hollis; UCMS eighth-grader Alex Parks; Eddie Suiter, who teaches Honors English and sophomore English classes; and senior Blaire Beachum. Bragg was extremely complimentary of the students who attended the session and of the questions they posed for him.
