Hello everyone. I can’t wait to tell you all what we have going on at the center. It’s already February but the last two months have been one big blur. I do hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed the holidays. We were fortunate enough to have a few days off to spend with our loved ones. I hope all of you did as well.
Kim and I just got back this past week from a meeting with United Way which was held in Jackson. We have a new president and C.E.O. by the name of Ed L. Herndon. For those of you who got to attend the Christmas Luncheon, Mr. Herndon made a special trip to attend our luncheon.
The meeting, which we attended this week, was very informative. I can’t express enough appreciation for the great things United Ways does for this community. I want to give all of you a very special thank you if you make a donation to the United Way of West Tennessee.
All of the money which is raised in West Tennessee goes right back into our community, plus you can even designate which partners you would like to fund.
The Martin Senior Adult Center Advisory committee has already met once this year. The advisory committee is made up of individuals who meet four times a year for the sole purpose of addressing any issues for our senior community.
This year our committee has designated 2012 for seeking out new activities, ideals and recruitment. We want to be the place where you can come for exercise, health screenings and any other classes which we can sponsor.
The month of February is going to start off busier than usual. We are stepping up with some new classes as well as keeping our daily activities going.
Everyone needs to call or come to the center for our monthly calendar.
Each month the calendar is filled with information for all activities, speakers and health screenings. This month is no exception of how busy our folks are going to be. We will have two weeks of crafts. We will have a speaker here Thursday from Extended Care.
On Feb. 7, we will be sponsoring a fund raiser. Members of the community will be able to stop in for a Chili lunch with all of the trimmings for $5. The tickets are on sale now. Everyone is invited, so come get tickets now.
Regional Home Care will bring Bingo gifts Feb. 7, and then look for Martin Health Care to be with us Feb. 10. These ladies always have a good time when they are in the center.
Our potluck is always the third Thursday of the month. This month our main meat will be chicken. We will have a special guest from Northwest Tennessee Public Transportation. If you have questions or would just like to hear what the transportation office is all about, please join us for potluck. This is always a good time to fellowship with people from our community.
We are going to offer a costume jewelry repair class Feb. 17, starting at 10 am. Bring any old costume jewelry to see what you can learn.
Sign up for our Cake Decorating Class, which will be held Feb. 21 and 28. The class size is limited so be sure to sign up early. The class is scheduled from 9 until 11 a.m. both days.
For all our card players, be sure to be here one hour earlier to play Feb. 22. For that day only, the hours for cards will be 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Also, Feb. 22, Bob Smith and the Martin Senior Adult Center will be hosting a black history celebration starting at 2 p.m. This year’s speaker will be the Rev. Paul Jenkins. Mark your calendar for this wonderful event.
Last, but not least, don’t forget Becky Burnett from Amedisys Home Health Care will be here Feb. 28 at 1:45 p.m. to give us information concerning your heart.
Please come see us and join the fun at the Martin Senior Adult Center. We are open 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
