The Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at the University of Tennessee at Martin sent representatives to a National Recruitment Workshop and Seminar Jan. 19-21 in Kansas City, Mo.
Representatives of the Alpha Upsilon chapter included: Drew Denton from Bolivar; Kody Read from Pulaski; Brandon McMillan from McEwen; Seth Waterfield from Martin and Nathan Couch from Hohenwald.
These young men were accompanied by chapter advisor Marvin Flatt.
“I was honored to be selected as a representative by my brothers. Recruitment is a very important aspect of my fraternity. The goal is to find the best young men possible that have a desire to learn and be successful throughout college, as well as, strive once in the work place,” Denton said.
While in Kansas City, the group learned new methods of recruitment, talked with other chapters from across the Nation about tactics, set goals for the upcoming year, and planned dates to find the best possible men.
The diversity among the group attending the conference ranged from Louisiana to Wisconsin with around 75 attendees.
“I really learned a lot from the other chapters across the country.  It was nice to be in a relaxed setting and compare ideas,” Couch said.
By attending the National Recruitment School, the group was able to bring back to their chapter goals and ideas to recruit the best men.
“These young men are some of the best I know and are really excited for the upcoming year. Recruitment School provides the fraternity with methods of building a successful recruitment system to grow the quality and quantity of brothers ” Flatt, said.
Recruitment school not only taught these young men how to recruit, but also public speaking and media skills they will use throughout their career.
