Bob Currey Posted: Wednesday, February 1, 2012 12:18 pm The Messenger, February 1, 2012 Robert Evans “Bob” Currey, 81, of Union City died Jan. 31, 2012, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Dr. Cecil Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Thomas Key, Williams Reece, Jim Harris, Roger Hornsby, Terry Hornsby, Ed Youngblood, Russell Caldwell, Alan Graham, John Jackson and Leonard Todd. The family requests that memorials be made to Union City First Baptist Church. He was born March 17, 1930, in Union City, son of the late Algernon Sidney and Jewel (McCain) Currey. He married the former Katherine Rice April 27, 1963. She survives. He was the retired owner and operator of the former Currey’s Welding and Machine Shop in Union City and was a member of Union City First Baptist Church. He had also been a member and the president of the former Union City Lions Club. He was a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors also include his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Phillip Ryan of Jackson; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Amanda Currey of Memphis; three grandchildren, Katherine Currey Ryan and John Carr Ryan, both of Jackson, and Nora Jane Currey of Memphis; and his sister, June McCord of Union City. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Marie Amanda Currey; his sister, Marianne Currey; and his half sister, Fairy Lou Sitton.
