A Union City man was charged with resisting arrest and other offenses when he was arrested Monday evening on East Gibbs Street in Union City.
James Peeler Courtney, 31, of 703 East Todd St., Union City, was charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication, as well as taken into custody on two outstanding warrants, according to a Union City Police Department report.
About 4:50 p.m., police officers attempted to take Courtney into custody for two warrants on file with the police department. Once told he was under arrest, Courtney allegedly jerked away and began to “resist heavily.” He allegedly refused to comply with officers’ directions and resisted arrest until being physically restrained by four officers.
Courtney was tasered during the scuffle with police, according to the report.
Police reported Courtney had an odor of alcohol on his breath and officers noted they believe it contributed to his behavior.
The outstanding warrants on Courtney were for charges of burglary and theft in connection with a Jan. 10 incident involving the alleged theft of a refrigerator from an outbuilding behind 1301 East Church St. in Union City, according to the report.
