TALKING STRATEGY — Union City Middle School principal Michael Paul Miller is getting a head start on preparations for an upcoming donkey basketball game by talking strategy with one of the four-legged hoop stars. The game, which is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Union City High School gymnasium, will feature the donkey-riding and basketball talents of several local teachers and administrators. Tickets for the event, which is a fund raiser sponsored by the Union City Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization, are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Ages 5 and younger will be admitted free. Tickets are available at UCMS, UCHS and The Messenger. Among those scheduled to participate in the event are educators John Easley, George Leake, Jacob Cross, Bobby Williams, Hunter Rice, Rob Nettles, Laney Rogers, Christina Grimm, Melissa Blackwell and Kristen Miles and Boys & Girls Club program director Tracy Boucher, with others to be added later. Circle A Donkey Ranch of Henry will be providing the four-legged competitors. “Watching some of these people play basketball would probably be entertainment enough,” a PTO spokesman said. “And putting them on donkeys, which are notorious for having minds of their own, will no doubt add another element of amusement. We think people will be laughing in their seats, wondering, “What will happen next? It will be great fun for the whole family.”
