Martin Fine Arts Club holds meeting

Posted: Wednesday, January 25, 2012 8:00 pm

The Martin Fine Arts Club met Jan. 4 at the Weldon Public Library, with Mrs. Jerry Gresham, Mrs. James Pritchett and Mrs. Bill Shore serving as hostesses.
On the cold January afternoon, the 20 members were served a delicious plate of caramel cake with nuts and coffee.  After the social hour, the president, Mrs. Tom Gallien, called the club to order.  She turned the meeting over to Mrs. G.T. Hall, who introduced the speaker for the day, Mrs. Pansy Baker, president of the Historical and Genealogical Society of Weakley County.
Ms. Baker gave the club pointers on how to research their family genealogy and gave us this to think about, “You lose touch after three generations.”
She encouraged members to interview their relatives for family stories and ask for photographs. Also, there are many resources in the Genealogy Room of the library, including volumes on Weakley County cemeteries. Ms. Baker’s love of history has borne fruit as she has researched her family tree and been a detective in bringing forth Weakley County history. She has found that Weakley County history is quite exciting and there have been some very interesting individuals in our county’s past. After the program, Mrs. Gallien led the club in the collect.
She asked for the treasurer’s report given by Mrs. John Wall and then the secretary, Mrs. Michael Hinds, called roll and read the minutes.
As there was no new or old business to bring before the club, the meeting was adjourned.
Those present and not already mentioned were Mrs. James Cannon, Mrs. Bob Cheeseman, Mrs. Harold Clifton, Mrs. Donnie Davis, Mrs. Joe Exum, Mrs. Tom Farmer, Mrs. Lowell Fields, Mrs. Dale Overton, Mrs. Bob Peeler, Mrs. George Pritchett, Mrs. Lee Pritchett, Mrs. Sanford Truitt and Mrs. Fred Vowell.
