|The UT Martin women’s basketball team unveiled its eighth different starting lineup of the season, and it didn’t take long to see that it was a winner Saturday afternoon at McBrayer Arena. |
With Shelby Crawford and sophomore Aubrey Reedy in the starting lineup together for the first time this season, UT Martin claimed an 84-61 victory over Eastern Kentucky.
UT Martin improves to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Eastern Kentucky falls to 9-9 on the year and 5-3 in the league. UTM returns to action tonight at 5 at Morehead State.
Crawford and Reedy joined sophomores Heather Butler, Jasmine Newsome and Jaclissa Haislip in the starting lineup.
Three of the five scored double-digits as Butler recorded her 49th consecutive double-digit scoring game with 29 points. Newsome finished with 16 points, while Reedy tossed in a season-best 11 points. Crawford had six points and seven rebounds, while Haislip scored five points.
The Skyhawks opened a 29-14 lead when Butler knocked down a 3-pointer with 6:50 to play. Crawford finished the first half with four rebounds, two points and two steals. Reedy hit two 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play and grabbed two rebounds.
Morehead 62, UTM 56 (M)
Sophomore Troy King led all scorers with 15 points off the bench for UTM, but a Morehead State run in the early stages of the second half led to the loss for the Skyhawks.
It marked the second time this season that King led UT Martin in scoring.
Mike Liabo scored 12 points, grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and handed out four assists for UT Martin (3-18, 0-8 Ohio Valley Conference), which saw five players score at least eight points. Dane Smith (nine points), Jeremy Washington (eight) and Corderio Maclin (eight) also contributed to the balanced scoring attack of the Skyhawks.
