Details are sketchy about an overnight murder in Hickman, Ky., but Hickman Police Chief Tony Grogan confirmed this morning the town’s mayor, Charles Murphy, has been killed and Tommy Lattus is in custody charged with his murder.
Lattus turned himself in at the Hickman Police Department at 1:21 a.m. today, according to Grogan.
According to a statement from the police chief, Lattus was taken into custody based on his statement that he had “just shot and killed Charles Murphy.”
An officer then when to Murphy’s residence at 2110 Clay St. and “noticed forced entry into the home. He found Mayor Charles Murphy in the bedroom. He had been shot and was unresponsive.”
According to Grogan, Lattus confessed to Murphy’s murder at the Hickman Police Department. He is currently being held in the Fulton County Detention Center in Hickman.
“This is an ongoing investigation and nothing more will be released at this time,” Grogan stated in a news release.
Officials in Hickman would not release when Lattus would be arraigned on the murder charge. Published in The Messenger 1.23.12
