Greenfield’s girls keep right on winning. The Yellowjacket boys, however, could not carry over their recent momentum. The Lady ’Jackets used a big third quarter to pull away from Halls and claim a 59-42 verdict in the first game of Tuesday night’s District 14A doubleheader at the Greenfield gym. Following a win last week over perennial West Tennessee 1A power and state tournament contender Humboldt, the Yellowjacket boys could not build on that win in suffering a 51-43 setback in the nightcap. The Greenfield girls are now 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the district, while the boys fall to 9-8 and 4-5. Both Yellowjacket teams will have big league road tests on Friday night, traveling to Lake County. The Lady Falcons are currently the top-ranked 1A team in the state, while the defending champion boys are ranked fifth. G’field 59, Halls 42 (G) The Lady Yellowjackets put up 21 points and limited Halls to five in the third quarter, breaking open a tight game. Greenfield led just 11-10 after one period and carried a 27-22 advantage into the locker room for halftime. Shameilla McMullen scored a game-high 21 points for Greenfield, while Molly Houston had 14 points and Ineisha Claybrooks added 10 points for the Lady Tigers. Houston scored 12 of her points on four 3-point baskets. Halls 51, G’field 43 (B) The Tigers built a lead from the opening tip and added to it in each of the first three quarters to take the road win. Halls led 14-8 at the end of the first frame and 26-17 at the half. The Tigers then expanded that to 44-33 by the end of the third quarter. Emitt Henning led three Halls’ players in double figures with 21 points, knocking down four 3-point baskets. T.J. Reed added 16 points and Frank Bales scored 12 points. The Crouse brothers, Heath and Hunter, each scored 14 points for the ’Jackets, both hitting a pair of triples. Published in The WCP 1.19.12
