Edward “Jim” Simmons, 70, of Red Banks, Miss., formerly of the Phillippi community, died Jan. 15, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis.
He was born in Lake County in 1940, son of the late Fred and Sally (McCoy) Simmons.
He is survived by his wife, JoEllen Simmons; three daughters, Sharon Mooney of Biloxi, Miss., Suzy Ann (Simmons) Roberts of Blytheville, Ark., and Debbie Vernor of Memphis; three sisters, Suzy (Simmons) Parker of Union City, Shelia (Simmons) Jones of Tiptonville and Marie (Simmons) Fagan of Troy; two brothers, Franklin “Dink” Simmons of Tiptonville and Randy Simmons of Ridgely; nine grandchildren, Nickolas White of Alaska, Rachel White of Biloxi, Edward Simmons III of Cayce, Ky., James Roberts of Blytheville, Sissy Roberts and Adam Roberts, both of Gallatin, Charlie Roberts of Hickman, Ky., and Olivia Verner and Savana Joy Verner, both of Memphis; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Edward Simmons Jr.
