A low seed from a blind draw could not stop Union City.
The UCMS girls won the West Tennessee Athletic Conference B-team tournament with three wins Saturday.
Saddled with a No. 6 seed, UC rallied to beat Three Oaks 31-26 in its opening game, topped Halls 27-6 in the semifinals and then knocked off Humboldt 35-31 in the title game.
In UC’s opener, Three Oaks held a 12-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tornadoes then exploded for a 19-2 advantage over the final six minutes for the win.
Chante Deberry totaled 17 points, leading UC’s charge with 11 in the fourth quarter, London Green had four points, and both Latavia Thomas and Destiny Watts each scored three points.
Deberry scored 10 points to lead the Lady Twisters in the second game.
Cortteaira Monroe had six points, and Preschona Henry added four points for UC.
Green scored 15 points and Deberry pitched in 10 points for the UC girls in the title game.
Watts finished with four points.
UT Martin quartet
earn softball honors
Four players on the University of Tennessee at Martin softball team were named to College Sports Madness All-American Teams.
Sophomore pitcher and outfielder Amanda Brandenburg was named to the first team, while pitcher Chelsea Jones and infielders Leah Taylor and Stephanie Nidiffer were second team picks.
