A texting while driving charge was levied against a Union City man after his vehicle crashed into the front of a Union City store Thursday afternoon.
Jacob Lynn Adcock, 25, of 1158 South Sunswept Drive, Union City, was issued a citation for texting while driving following a crash that occurred about 2:45 p.m. at the Locker Room at 317 West Reelfoot Ave., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police responded to the store on West Reelfoot Avenue near South Third Street to investigate a traffic accident and found a black 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck had driven through the large plate glass window on the south side of the building that faces Reelfoot Avenue.
Adcock told police he had been eastbound on West Reelfoot Avenue and was attempting to text with his cell phone when he ran off the roadway and into the building. His pickup truck caused the entire store window to shatter, sending small pieces of glass into most of the building, according to the report.
Police reported there were people inside the store and they were not struck by the vehicle, but were “showered” with small pieces of glass, etc., from the incident. No one sought medical attention at the time.
Adcock is scheduled to appear in Obion County General Sessions Court on the texting charge.
