Two people have been charged in connection with the theft of an electronic device from Walmart Supercenter in Union City the week after Christmas.
Taylor Banks, 18, of 121 Gene Adams Road, Martin, and Zachary Hulpa, 18, of 105 Orchard Drive, South Fulton, have each been charged with theft over $500, according Union City Police Department investigator Derrick O’Dell.
They were identified as suspects in the incident after their photos from store video surveillance were published in The Messenger earlier this week.
The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred about 5:54 p.m. Dec. 29, 2011, after the pair entered Walmart. While there, both allegedly picked up scrubs and concealed the clothing in the woman’s purse. The two then allegedly went to the store’s electronics department and removed a Samsung Galaxy tablet from a display case. Video surveillance showed the two suspects carrying the tablet around the store until the woman went into a front restroom. When she exited the restroom, neither the tablet or the other items were exposed. The two then left the store, according to O’Dell.
Minutes later, store employees found the torn package which belonged to the Samsung tablet, with the contents removed.
