A Union City man was charged with driving under the influence and other offenses following a one-vehicle crash on New Year’s Day on Phebus Lane in Union City.
Nathan Joel Stewart, 33, of 621 Thomas Road, Union City, was charged in connection with a crash that occurred Jan. 1, just after midnight, in the 2200 block of Phebus Lane near Walker Tanner Road, according to a Union City Police Department report released today.
Police reported a 1994 Chevrolet driven by Stewart left the left side of the roadway, traveling into a ditch and impacting with a dirt embankment on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The investigating officer reported Stewart allegedly showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and Stewart told police he was texting while driving.
According to the report, Stewart was given field sobriety tests which showed sufficient clues he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle. He was arrested and charged with DUI, driving on a revoked driver’s license and failure to maintain right side of the roadway.
No injuries were reported.
