FIRST HIKE OF THE NEW YEAR – To kick off the 75th anniversary of Tennessee State Parks, public destinations held a series of First Hikes of 2012.  While hikers had a variety of trail types, distances and interpretive programs to choose from – over the course of two days, approximately 900 participants came out to cover more than 115 miles during these First Hikes across Tennessee. Lee and Barb Regan of northern Virginia visited with Big Cypress State Park and Natural Area manager (left) Bill McCall in Greenfield during the park’s first hike held Jan. 2. McCall, along with long-time friends Carey Sanders and his family, led the hike. Despite the 20-degree temperatures that day, the first hike boasted a good turnout.
