Lael Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Union City met for their regular monthly meeting recently.
Bobbie Adams, the class outreach leader, called the meeting to order. She asked for those that needed prayer because of deaths in their families and sickness. Dorothy Rasberry led in prayer.
Members repeated the Pledge of Faith: “Believing in God.” The pledge says, “God is who He says He is. God can do what He says He can do. I am who God says I am. I can do all things through Christ. God’s work is alive and active in me. I’m believing God.”
The class gave a memorial to 39ers for classmate Betty Jo Smith, who died Jan. 5. Dot Capps, devotional leader, gave the devotional taken from Romans 10:9 titled “Highway to Heaven.”
She said people will not find a location for it on a map, as Highway to Heaven does not exist. The road is explained in the book of Romans in the Bible and it tells how to go to heaven in Romans 1:16. She added, “I am not ashamed of the Bible. Christ is the power of God unto salvation unto every one that believeth.”
Jean Eaker reported on the number of cards she had sent out during the month. Ms. Capps served refreshments of coconut cake, Chex™ mix and ice cream with drinks.
The next meeting will be Feb. 14 at the church’s family life center, with Jessie White as the hostess.
Those present were Ms. Capps, Ms. Rasberry, Pat Cunningham, Mrs. Adams, Joyce Stephens, Lena Mai Pruitt, Ms. Eaker, Ms. Thornton, Ms. Passmore and Edna McIntosh.
