James Howard Thornton, 90, of Huntsville, Ala., a native of Union City, died Jan. 6, 2012, at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Alabama.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at East View Cemetery, with Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 201 Lincoln Road, Fayetteville, TN 37334; or the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home, 2701 Meridian St., Huntsville, AL 35811.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Bishop Street Church of Christ and had been engaged in the trucking business.
He is survived by his son, Robert Tom Terrell of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Christa Franzen of Atlanta, Michael Terrell of Raleigh, N.C., Nelana Towry and Bart Terrell, both of Fayetteville, and Amanda Fanning of Lynchburg; eight great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Donna Forrester and Jennifer Cates, both of Mayfield, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Thornton.
