Ethel Lou Horton

Ethel Lou “Sue” Horton, 89, of Gleason passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at McKenzie Health Care. She had been a resident of McKenzie Health Care since 2004.
Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Gene Price, pastor of Tumbling Creek Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Morris Cemetery in Greenfield with Williams Funeral Home of Greenfield in charge of the arrangements.
Ethel, fondly known by family and friends as “Sue,” was born December 4, 1922, in Rutherford and was the daughter of Ed an Lula Tharp of Greenfield. She was a member of Tumbling Cree Baptist Church of Gleason. Ethel and Clyde Horton lived in Lansing, Mich., where they raised their family until their retirement to Greenfield in 1978. Ethel worked at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for nearly 25 years as a cafeteria clerk.
Ethel was survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Lynch of Broadway, Va.; by her daughter-in-law, Regenia Horton of Gleason; five grandchildren, Jacky Horton of Martin, Mickey Horton of Gleason, Trevor Horton of Evansville, Ind., Erika Lynch of Plainfield, Vt.; and Joshua Lynch of Thermpoplis, Wy.
Ethel was preceded in death by her first husband, Jewel Marcus, who was killed in World War II; and by her husband of 48 years, William Clyde Horton, who passed away in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Eddie Horton of Gleason, who died in July 2010 as the result of a hunting accident; by her granddaughter, Andrea Lynch Lohr of Broadway, Va., who died from breast cancer in July 2011; two sisters, Margaret Morriset and Nell Stepp; and one brother, Buddy Tharp.
