Lady ’Dogs take pair; boys can’t keep pace

Gleason did not have much trouble with McKenzie. The Bulldog boys, however, had more than they could handle.
The ’Dogs split their District 13A twinbill at home with a 43-22 win in girls’ play and a 74-31 setback in the boys’ nightcap.
Gleason 43, MHS 22 (G)
Defense was the key for Gleason’s girls, whose trapping style resulted in a 15-4 lead after one quarter and a 28-8 margin at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs were up 39-11 by the end of the third period.
Briana Jones outscored McKenzie on her own with 24 points, while Calay Smith added eight points for Gleason.
Ashley Barker was McKenzie’s top scorer with nine points.
MHS 74, Gleason 31 (B)
Much like the girls’ opener, this one was in the books early as the Rebels led 21-5 with still two minutes remaining in the first period.
McKenzie led 43-20 at the half and 69-25 by the end of the third period.
Gleason 34, B’ford 28 (G)
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Bradford 22-16 in the second half of the low-scoring game.
Gleason was up 5-4 after one, Bradford tied the game at 12-all by intermission and then the Lady ’Dogs claimed a 23-18 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
Briana Jones put up 13 points for Gleason, while Jaclynn Street had a game-high 15 points for the Lady Red Devils.
B’ford 68, Gleason 48 (B)
The Red Devils took command in the first half, outscoring Gleason 38-23 in the first 156 minutes.
