| Murray State continues to reach new heights.
The Racer men’s basketball program achieved the highest Associated Press ranking in school history this week by moving up four spots to No. 15.
Off to the best start in school history and one win shy of the program’s longest winning streak ever, Murray State is 16-0 heading into a pair of home games this week.
With the move up comes more publicity, too.
ESPNU All-Access is on campus this week to shoot footage for a story that will appear at a later date. The show will shoot the Jacksonville State game Thursday night.
The network will be back in Murray on Saturday to broadcast the Racers’ game against Tennessee Tech, which tips off at 5 p.m.
That game has been designated “White Out Night” for Racer fans at the CFSB Center.
One major reason for the Racers’ rise this season has been junior guard Isaiah Canaan.
Canaan was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week in a vote by the league’s sports information directors.
Canaan, from Biloxi, Miss., helped the Racers to two wins last week over Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay as MSU stayed undefeated this season at 16-0 and tied the best start to a season in program history.
Canaan averaged 25.5 points, four assists and three rebounds a game last week while hitting 69 percent (9-of-13) from 3-point range, 57 percent (15-of-26) from the field and 85 percent (12-of-14) at the free throw line.
Against arch rival Austin Peay on Saturday, Canaan hit his first seven 3-point attempts and scored 27 of his 35 points in the first half.
In fact, Canaan scored the first 16 points of the game for the Racers, who led by as many as 17 points in the opening half.
