Completed arrangements are being announced for Newt Farris Vaden, 94, of Union City, who died at his home Dec. 20, 2011.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Sam Shelby officiating. Entombment will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Trout, John Adams, Sam Vaden, Steven Vaden, Barry Reeves and Adam Reeves. Honorary pallbearers will be John Marshall Vaden, William Thompson, Robert Wood and Glenn Headen.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Dan Marino Foundation for the Care and Treatment of Autism, Miami Children’s Hospital, Dan Marino Outpatient Center, 2900 South Commerce Pkwy., Weston, FL 33331.
He was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Union City, son of the late Newt A. and Mary Ann (Long) Vaden. He married the former Edna Adams in 1939. She died in 1941. He then married the former Ruth Ann Byerley in 1943. She died in 2000. He then married the former Christine (Caldwell) Shelby in 2003. She survives.
He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he was salutatorian of the Class of 1939 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Gamma. He was district manager of the Dyersburg District office of the Social Security Administration for 47 years. He had been a member of Dyersburg Rotary Club and the Northwest Tennessee Heritage Society, which he served as president, and had been an elder of Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City. He had also been a member of Union City Civitan Club for many years.
He is also survived by his son, James Barry Vaden of Coral Gables, Fla.; his nephew, John Marshall Vaden of Union City; and two great nephews, Steven Vaden of Washington, D.C., and Sam Vaden of Union City, a student at Louisiana State University.
