WHITEFIELD, N.H. (AP) — The company that owns a tractor-trailer that crashed down an embankment in Whitfield, N.H., killing the driver, has identified him.
The truck belongs to John R. Reed Inc. of Dyer and the driver was identified as 52-year-old Keith Butts of Gadsden, Tenn. An autopsy was scheduled Wednesday.
Butts was northbound on Route 116 Tuesday, lost control of the truck on a downhill grade, went through a stop sign at Route 3 and failed to negotiate the turn. Police said the truck struck a steel support beam for a gas pump island and sheared off a set of gas pumps before going over the embankment.
Police said the tractor-trailer was carrying steel, which shifted forward into the cab of the truck, crushing it and entrapping the driver.
