A vehicle struck a utility pole on East Main Street in Union City and left the scene early Sunday.
Police responded about 1:50 a.m. to the 700 block of Exchange Street, where callers thought they heard gunshots, according to a Union City Police Department report.
A check of the area revealed an unknown driver had struck a utility pole in the 700 block of East Main Street. The pole was severed at the bottom and had fallen into the street, pulling several power lines with it. The pole also had a transformer on top.
Based on an area video surveillance system which captured the incident, a white pickup truck left the roadway and struck the utility pole. The vehicle never stopped and continued east on East Main Street, police reported.
