Baylor shows UConn who’s No. 1

Baylor is still the unanimous choice as the No. 1 team in The Associated Press women’s college basketball poll after winning its showdown with No. 2 Connecticut.
The Lady Bears received all 40 first-place votes Monday after edging UConn 66-61 on Sunday night. The Huskies remain second, with Notre Dame, Stanford and Maryland following. The Cardinal host No. 6 Tennessee on Tuesday night, putting their 67-game home winning streak on the line.
Tennessee will close a long four-game road trip with the game at Stanford.
The Lady Vols have traveled from New York to Los Angeles on the road trip, winning the three previous games as part of a current five-game winning streak.
Tennessee will be at home on Dec. 28 against Old Dominion and then open its Southeastern Conference schedule on New Year’s Day at Auburn.
Miami, Kentucky, Duke and Texas A&M round out the Top 10. The Hurricanes visit No. 17 Georgetown on Wednesday.
Tennessee and Kentucky lead a group of four SEC teams in the latest poll. Georgia is ranked 13th, while Vanderbilt is 25th.
Kentucky lost its first game Sunday, 92-83 at Notre Dame, and will host Samford on Wednesday.
In addition, Louisville is the No. 14 this week. The Cardinals host UT Martin on Dec. 28.
North Carolina had the biggest fall, dropping five places to No. 23 after a 31-point loss to South Carolina. Published in The Messenger 12.20.11
