Dorothy Claudia Smith

Mrs. Dorothy Claudia “Dottie” Smith, 90 of Martin died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Gibson County General Hospital in Trenton.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Martin with Rev. Mike Sams and Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in Martin in charge of the arrangements.
Johnny Nanney, Shawn Nanney, David Jackson, Bradley Davis, Chad Cooper, David Taylor and Terone Hawks served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were James Hadden, Jimmy Wright, Andy Sliger, Tom Noble, Tom Stewart, Mike Bullington, Jimmy Hatchel, George Evans, members of Fellowship Sunday School Class and Radiance Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Smith was born June 13, 1921, in Sprott, Ala., daughter of the late Reuben and Claude Bolling Watters. She was a graduate of Livingston College, a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Harold J. Smith of Martin, Dean Emeritus of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences; two daughters, Claudia (Mike) Nanney of Martin, Cindy (Mark) Cooper of Sharon; two sisters, Jean Watters of Sprott and Frances Smoot of Montgomery, Ala.; five grandchildren, Johnny (Keely) Nanney, Shawn Nanney, Dareth (Bradley) Davis, Becky (David) Jackson, and Chad (Deanna) Cooper; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Harold J. Smith Scholarship Fund at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
