Big Cypress Tree Natural Area and the Friends of the Big Cypress Tree invite the community to come and participate in the first hike of the new year on Jan. 2, 2012. This is a family hike along the park’s tree identification trial, which is approximately three-tenths of a mile long. Three times around the trail makes about a mile.
The hike will end at the picnic shelter where there will be a short program about the history of the park as well as a talk about the 75th anniversary of Tennessee state parks. The Friends of Big Cypress Tree will serve refreshments in the picnic shelter.
The trail is paved, level and suitable for wheelchairs and baby strollers. The entire family is encouraged to come out and be part of the first hike of the new year at Big Cypress Tree State Natural Area. The hike will begin at 1 p.m.
The park is located five miles west of Greenfield on Highway 445. Turn west onto 445 from Highway 45 east and follow the signs.
