LR girls rally to remain perfect

The Lake Road girls are a ‘Perfect 10.’
The Lady Generals improved to 10-0 Thursday night by rallying for a 49-36 victory over South Fulton in local middle school basketball play.
LR, which will be the top seed in the upcoming Obion County School System Tournament (Dec. 15, 17 & 19), beat its closest pursuer for the second time this season on Thursday with a second-half comeback.
In the boys’ game, SF got a stickback bucket by Chris Morris with five seconds left to beat the Generals 30-28.
Other games of interest reported to The Messenger from Thursday saw Ridgemont take a pair from Black Oak, 34-13 and 43-18, while Union City went 1-1 against Lake County, winning the nightcap 48-45 after dropping the girls’ contest 36-31.

Rally propels LR Girls
A 16-9 third-quarter flurry turned a 21-17 deficit into a 33-30 lead for the Lady Generals.
Lake Road trailed 13-7 after one quarter.
Avery Partin led the winners with 14 points while Anna Logan added nine and Hannah Cavness eight. Parker Albright and Macy Horner each tallied seven in a balanced LR attack.
Cassidy Ruddle topped South Fulton (10-3) and all scorers with 16 markers.
The nightcap went down to the wire with Morris’ heroics giving the Redmen the victory and a 7-6 mark.
SF outscored the host Generals 12-6 over the final period after trailing 22-18 entering that stretch.
Lake Road held a seemingly-safe 20-9 lead at the half.
Morris ended the night with 13 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Jyriq Jones had six points and three assists.
Brett Jackson had a double-double for LR (6-4) with 11 points and 11 boards, while Seth Clouse added six points and Blaine Hanks had six caroms.
Lake Road hosts Ridgemont on Monday, while South Fulton plays Black Oak.
UC splits close pair
The Tornado boys went back-and-forth with LC, finally coming out on top and improving to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the West Tennessee Athletic Conference.
Willaevion Burton proved hard for the Falcons to stop as he totaled 24 points and 16 rebounds for UC. Quentrail Polk pitched in with 11 points, while Joe Wiggins was good for eight.
The Twisters trailed 22-21 at the half.
In the girls’ game, Union City fell to 2-3 in league play.
Chynia Hyde had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Caroline Chism hauled down a dozen rebounds for the Lady Tornadoes. Japril Hegler had four points and five rebounds, while Tykesha Vaughn had seven points and Piper Warren five boards.
Union City plays host to Northview Monday in WTAC play.
R’mont 2-0 vs. BO
The Mustang teams cruised to a pair of wins against Black Oak.
Landry Webster and Samantha Davis both scored eight for R’mont in Game 1, with Kirstlen Petrie adding seven points.
Ridgemont (6-7) led 18-8 at halftime and 27-11 after three stanzas.
Nellina Wooten had 10 markers and Annabelle Baltezor six rebounds for BO.
The nightcap saw the Mustangs jump out to a 14-3 first-quarter lead and never look back.
Cameron Flowers scored 12 points, Nathan King 11 and J.P. Jones seven for the winners, who are now 8-5 heading into Monday night’s game at Lake Road.
Zac Jones tallied eight points for the Eagles, with Drake McGuire finishing with six points and four rebounds.
