Opal Mayo Covington Cerne

Mrs. Opal Mayo Covington Cerne, 95, of Dresden, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at Hillview Community Living Center, Dresden. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden with Dr. Don McCulley officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Dresden.
Patrick Tarver, Corey Sawyers, Bradley Sawyers, Jerry Snider, Don Cleek and Lyndell Dilday served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Anderson, Billy Owen, Jimmy B. Dilday and Dannie Roberts. Mrs. Cerne was born Dec. 12, 1915 in Dresden, daughter of the late Lee and Nell Dilday Covington. She was the widow of Frank Cerne.
She was a homemaker, a keypunch operator and a member of First Baptist Church in Dresden. Survivors include one daughter, Cindy (Kerry) Cooper of Dresden; one son, Eddy Cerne of Dresden; one sister, Agnes (Billy) Owen of Martin; two grandchildren, Brittney Dane and Beth Dane; two step-grandchildren, Chad Cooper and Cassie Tarver; and five step great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Frances Mezzacasa; and one brother, Woodson “Woody” Covington. Online tributes may be left at www.bowlinfuneralhome.com.
