Dog food alert issued

The FDA Veterinary Laboratory Network issued an alert that there have been a number of sudden deaths in dogs that appear to be related to the ingestion of Ol’ Roy dog food.  There have been three different episodes to date: one in Maryland, one in Texas (3 dogs), and one in Michigan, (2 dogs). The Maryland dog exhibited vomiting, diarrhea, and neurologic symptoms.  The Texas case presented with vomiting and diarrhea. There is no information  on the Michigan dogs yet.
Kentucky veterinary practitioners who encounter unexplained mortalities or hepatic failure in dogs with a history of ingesting Ol’ Roy dog food may contact the Breathitt Veterinary Center or the UK Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
