The New Salem F.C.E. ladies met on Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m. There were 12 members who attended the meeting held at the home of Marjorie Simmons.
President Bettie Higgs called the meeting to order and read the thought for the day, “Salute the day with peaceful thoughts and peace will fill your heart; begin the day with a joyful soul and joy will be your part.” – Frank B. Whitney
The devotion leader was Mary Adams who read a newspaper clipping of a home demonstration club lady of Montgomery County. She based her devotion on Psalms 118:1, “O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good.” Marjorie Simmons led the songs, “Showers of Blessings” and “Count your Wrinkles” (sung to the tune of “Count your Blessings”). November birthdays that were recognized included Frances Clark and Pat Potter. The club sang “Happy Birthday” and recited the Club Creed together.
With the calling of the roll by Secretary Ruby Rogers, each one shared a Thanksgiving recipe and told how many teenage gifts she had brought for We Care. There were 67 in all.
Clark collected dues and telethon donations in the absence of Secretary Sylvia Simmons. Announcements to remember included a caroling and resident party for the county council at Van Ayer Nursing Home on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. The Friday meeting at 11 a.m. will be lunch and a Christmas party at the Station House in Palmersville. Each one is to bring a $10 gift for a Christmas gift exchange.
The adjourning thought was, “Although I am grateful for the blessings of wealth, it hasn’t changed what I am. My feet are still on the ground. I’m just wearing better shoes.” – Oprah Winfrey
The hostess provided prizes for recreation time and refreshments. Others who attended and were not mentioned included Deanna Higgs, Evonne Shopher, Kathy Simmons, Sara Simmons and new member Norma Good.
