The weekend assault and robbery of an 84-year-old rural Kenton man remains under investigation by the Obion County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the William Ross residence at 4279 Forks River Road, just northeast of Kenton, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday when one of Ross’ neighbors called 911 to report the assault, according to Chief Deputy Kent Treece.
He told The Messenger today deputies arrived on the scene about 2:30 a.m. and discovered Ross beaten and tied up in his residence. His vehicle, a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, was reported stolen but was quickly found by deputies at the Kenton Chevrolet dealership.
According to Treece, Ross told deputies he returned home around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon and, when he entered his residence, he was “jumped” by at least one person, a blanket was thrown over his head, he was knocked to the floor and beat up.
An ambulance transported Ross to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City and he was later transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Treece said Ross’ residence was ransacked and an undetermined amount of cash was taken from his wallet.
Ross remains in the critical care unit at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Published in The Messenger 11.30.11
