OC youth hoops
sets sign-up date

Signups for the Obion County Youth Basketball League are set for Saturday.
Registration will be held in the gym lobby at Obion County Central High School from 9 a.m. until noon.
Youths must have a parent present to sign up.
The fee to register is $20, and the season is tentatively scheduled to begin in January, according to a league spokesman.

UTM’s Newsome gets
Madness OVC award

UT Martin sophomore guard Jasmine Newsome has been named College Sports Madness’ Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her exceptional performance against Saint Louis last week.
Newsome scored 25 points in the Skyhawks’ 70-55 victory. She put in 22 of those markers in the second half and also had nine assists.
Additionally, Newsome had six rebounds and shot 36 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free throw line.
The Skyhawks are 4-1 and play Wednesday at Indiana State.
 
Mr. Football winners
include title hopefuls

Murfreesboro — Knoxville Webb swept the Mr. Football awards in its division and classification, Baylor had a pair of winners as well, and players from six of the 16 teams that will battle for state championships this weekend were honored as Tennessee’s best high school football players for 2011.
In all, 11 players were recognized at the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards luncheon Monday.
