Cheryl Weatherly has enjoyed floral arranging as a hobby for many years and now she is applying her skills as a floral designer at her new home-based business, Garden Gate Florals.
Mrs. Weatherly lives at 1353 Pleasant Valley Road in Union City.
She has converted her garage into a working floral design studio where she is producing a variety of fresh and silk floral arrangements for clients.
Garden Gate Florals is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and other hours by appointment.
The telephone numbers for the business are 885-2195 or 446-9447.
Mrs. Weatherly worked for 38 years as a nurse for Dr. Bobby Young at the Woman’s Clinic of Union City and after her retirement she decided to go into business for herself doing what she loves — decorating. She said she started doing floral arranging as a hobby and really got hooked on gardening.
She raises hydrangeas and roses in her garden and during warm weather months is able to use flowers from her garden to make special floral arrangements for her customers.
“I love it,” Mrs. Weatherly said about her hobby-turned-business.
Her floral design studio is set up to create special arrangements for such events as weddings, receptions or funerals.
Mrs. Weatherly also keeps a selection of vases and grapevine wreaths on hand in her shop.
“During the summer months, I have a cottage-type cutting garden that will help lower the cost of your design needs,” she said.
In order to keep up with the latest trends in floral design, Mrs. Weatherly also attends design seminars.
She recently completed a class with Ralph Null of Mississippi and she attended a class recently at the Memphis Botanical Gardens.
