Jayne Carmen (Yates) Estraca, 62, of Union City, formerly of St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, died Nov. 25, 2011, at the home of her sister, Angeline Nichols of Union City.
The family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, Pudge-n-Pals of Union City or the Union City Animal Adoption Center.
She donated her body to the Genesis Donor Program of the Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
She was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Obion County, daughter of the late John and Mary Hazel (Forbus) Yates.
She had been employed at the former HIS in South Fulton, the former Reelfoot Packing Company in Union City and the Obion County Board of Education. She and her husband, Jim Estraca, co-owned and managed a sailing charter company, Ocean Incentives, on Saint Thomas for 15 years.
She is survived by two children, Joel Poole and Forrest Poole, both of Jackson and sons of the late Monty Poole; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Poole of Savannah; two grandchildren, Cort Poole and Ethan Poole, both of Savannah; her brother, John Yates of Ormond Beach, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynda and David Hamblen, Brenda and Bob Miller and Angeline and Jeff Nichols, all of Union City; and her beloved dog, Wanda Jean Estraca.
