Trio of first-teamers lead UTM six-pack on All-OVC squad

Six football players at the University of Tennessee at Martin earned Ohio Valley Conference postseason honors in voting conducted by league head coaches and sports information directors and announced on Tuesday.
Tight end Kenny Jones, offensive lineman Michael Mancini and placekicker Cody Sandlin made the first team.
Jones, a senior from Knoxville, caught 25 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns and also scored a rushing touchdown.
Mancini, from Collierville, graded out at 75 percent. He made two errors in 633 snaps and recorded 32 pancakes.
Sandlin, from Goodlettsville, ranked 27th nationally in scoring during the season. He averaged 7.91 points per game. He converted 14-of-17 field goals for the high-octane Skyhawks, including one from 53 yards which was the longest in the OVC during the season and tied a UT Martin school record.
Junior wide receiver Quentin Sims, from Cincinnati, Ohio, was named to the All-OVC second team. Sims had 54 catches for 712 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Sims and sophomore walk-on linebacker Ben Johnson, from Primm Springs, were named to OVC All-Newcomer team.
Johnson led the Skyhawks with 97 tackles and 7.5 TFLs. He also had 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. He recorded a season-best 15 tackles in the season-finale at Eastern Kentucky.
Tennessee Tech senior wide receiver Tim Benford was named Offensive Player of the Year while his head coach, Watson Brown, was named the OVC Roy Kidd Coach of the Year. In the other major awards, Tennessee State senior linebacker Rico Council was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year while Tennessee State quarterback Michael German earned the Freshman of the Year award.
