UT Martin linebacker
earns award for finale

Sophomore linebacker Ben Johnson  has been named College Football Performance Awards Linebacker Performer of the Week for his effort against Eastern Kentucky.
Johnson led UT Martin in tackles with eight solos, seven assisted and 15 total tackles, the most in a single game by a Skyhawk this season. Johnson also had 2.5 sacks and one quarterback hurry.
The Skyhawks suffered a 23-16 loss at Eastern Kentucky this past Saturday and finished the 2011 season with a 5-6 overall record and a 4-4 Ohio Valley Conference worksheet.
Johnson finished the season with 97 tackles and 7.5 for losses. He also had 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.

to Alaska 2nd round

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Isaiah Canaan scored 19 points to lead Murray State to a 64-62 win over Alaska-Anchorage in the opening game of the Great Alaska Shootout on Wednesday night.
Ivan Aska had 13 points, including a pair of free throws with five seconds to play to give the Racers (5-0) a five-point lead. Donte Poole also had 13 points for Murray State, and Stacy Wilson scored 12 in 17 minutes off the bench.
Canaan had four steals, three assists and was 7 for 10 from the floor.
Alaska-Anchorage, a Division II school, was led by Taylor Rohde with 19 points. Steve White scored 14 for the Seawolves, who led 24-23 at the half. Abebe Demissie made a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the game’s final margin.

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee has suspended four players indefinitely for violating unspecified team rules.
Jimmy Stanton, associate athletic director for communications, confirmed Wednesday that sophomore receiver Matt Milton, senior defensive back C.J. Fleming, sophomore defensive back Nick Branum and sophomore linebacker Robert Nelson were suspended.
Tennessee (5-6, 1-6 Southeastern Conference) must beat Kentucky (4-7, 1-6) on Saturday to be eligible for a bowl.
None of the four are on the Vols’ two-deep roster. Milton has played in six games with one catch for 12 yards, while Branum played in a couple games early this season.
