Babe Ruth leagues change bats in ’12

Babe Ruth leagues change bats in ’12
Babe Ruth will be swinging a new bat in 2012.
New rules in place for the next year’s regular season and tournament play will dictate a change in bats for all Babe Ruth League divisions.
In the Cal Ripkin League, the new bat is not to exceed 33 inches in length, and the bat barrel cannot exceed 21⁄4 inches in diameter.
Only 21⁄4 barrel non-wood bats marked BPF 1.15 will be allowed.
The 13-15 age division for baseball will use a bat not exceeding 34 inches in length with a bat barrel not exceeding 25⁄8 inches in diameter.
All aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrels are allowed.
Bats for the 16-18 age division for baseball will not be allowed to exceed 34 inches in length.
The bat barrel will not exceed 25⁄8 inches in diameter or be greater than a minus-3 length-to-weight ratio.
Only composite bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed in the two age leagues.
Wood barrel bats conforming to specifications will be allowed in each league.
Any illegal bats discovered before use in a game will be thrown out, while an illegal bat used in a game would result in the batter being called out, if the play is appealed. Published in The Messenger 11.25.11
