UT Martin has signed four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent to play softball for the Skyhawks beginning with the 2013 season.
The four signees include Jessie Britt from Indianapolis, Ind.; Rachel Scrum from Maryville, Ill.; Mikala Torrence from DeSoto, Mo.; and Deven Wilson from Eva, Tenn.
Britt is a 5-7 shortstop and catcher from Indianapolis. She plays at Ben Davis High School, the largest high school in the state, where she was a two-time all-county selection in 2010 and 2011.
Scrum is a 5-9 infielder, outfielder and pitcher. She plays at Collinsville High School and for the Black Widow travel ball organization. She has been an all-conference, all-area selection and third team all-state selection in high school play.
Scrum hit .442 in high school softball. She sported a .628 slugging percentage with 54 RBI and 22 stolen bases in high school.
Torrence plays at Hillsboro High School and for the St. Louis Gold Fusion. She is an outfielder and will compete for the centerfield position for the Skyhawks.
Torrence hit .505 as a junior with 14 doubles and 11 triples. She surpassed those marks as a leadoff hitter in her career with Hillsboro High School and manned the centerfield position. She led the St. Louis Metro area in triples (11) both her junior and senior seasons.
Wilson is a catcher and first baseman at Camden Central High School.
She helped lead Camden to its first state championship in 2010 as a sophomore.
This past season, Wilson hit .328 with 42 hits. She had seven doubles and six home runs. She also drove in 35 runs.
Wilson caught current Skyhawk pitcher Amanda Brandenburg two years ago when the Lions won their first ever state championship in girls softball.
