Deputy Robert Wayne Kean of Grand Junction, Colo., son of Robert L. “Bob” and Betty Kean of Union City, was recently presented a Life Saving Award by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, where he is employed.
Kean and a fellow employee responded to report of a 25-year-old man who was not conscious or breathing.
CPR had been started prior to their arrival, but the two took over and continued their life saving efforts even after the Clifton Fire EMS Team arrived. Just before being placed in the ambulance for transport, the man began breathing on his own and opened his eyes.
Clifton Fire EMS members said if Kean and his fellow employee had not responded as quickly and worked as efficiently as they did, the man most likely would not have survived.
Kean graduated from Union City High School in 1989. He is married to Shina Thompson Kean, formerly of Fruita, Colo., and is the father of two sons, Kody Kean and Riley Kean, both of Grand Junction.
“We are very proud of our son and all our law enforcement officers, as well as our emergency and fire departments,” Bob Kean said. Published in The Messenger 11.23.11
